OPTIMISM, POSITIVE THINKING AND HOPE

I’ve always been an optimist. It was just a natural thing for me. At the age of 11, I received an octagonal shaped, blue and gold plated Junior International Optimist button hole pin. To this day, 66 years later, I still believe in the definition of and the philosophy of optimism.

Definition of optimism:
“A person who tends to be hopeful and confident about the future or the success of something.”

Philosophy of optimism:
“A person who believes that this world is the best of all worlds or that good must ultimately prevail over evil.”

Positive thinking is more of an attitude, rather than a philosophy. This attitude can have an impact on both your physical and mental health. By focusing on the good in any situation and weighing it against the bad, your expectations that things will go well are increased.

Negativity will only make conditions seem worse. Surrounding yourself with positive thinkers can not only support your position, but offer other solutions.

Hope is more of a feeling and a desire for certain things to happen. Some believe your expectations and feelings of trust in a higher power can help to facilitate your beliefs. It’s easier to believe in the right things happening with optimism, positive thinking and hope over giving up on life’s setbacks.

Often hope can seem unwarranted, but do not let this feeling of discouragement bring you down. Maintain your optimism and positivity with the hope all will be well.

In spite of all the negatives currently facing the world and our individual lives, we must all continue to be optimistic, positive thinking and hopeful. The only alternative is our failure to bring about the changes necessary to make this world a better place for all humanity.
